"I'm not even an atheist so much as I am an antitheist; I not only maintain that all religions are versions of the same untruth, but I hold that the influence of churches, and the effect of religious belief, is positively harmful." - Christopher Hitchens in Letters to a Young Contrarian.
I am a painter. I also write, take photographs, wrangle dogs, grow herbs - the culinary kind only - and travel when I can.
Recently divorced after thirteen years. I had no say in the matter. I am figuring out the life that follows. Looking for peace. Five years in New York City was enough. I've relocated to rural western Massachusetts. I like the quiet. I like the forest. I like snow. I like buying fresh, local goat's milk cheese at the General Store.
I am a book and movie collector. I have always had rescue dogs and you can see two of them throughout these pages. I eat Indian food every chance I get, but never say no to Chinese or Thai. Two of my favorite living musicians are Tom Waits and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy. Some of my favorite authors are Samuel Beckett, Gene Wolfe, and William Heinesen. Some of my favorite films are Henry Fool, A Room with A View, My Dinner With Andre, The Stalker, and Through a Glass Darkly.
I also have advanced rapid-cycling Bipolar I and other mental health issues. Accordingly, I take medication to control it. Mostly it works, but there are still bad days. I write about it here sometimes.
This is chapter four of my life.
I’d rather be … Alas in real life I have to go to the store and buy dogfood. That means putting on shoes. Maybe I’ll cheat and get a Boston Kreme on the way back.
